Today we began to prepare for our class presentations. We reviewed the sentence stress for exercise B on page 57. Next we discussed what characteristics of good presentation should have. Then, we brainstormed in small groups to come up with different possibilities for topics for our presentation on the moment or event when we felt like adults. Finally, we discussed how to use Google presentations to make visuals for our presentations.

Write out your presentation. Be sure to include the unit vocabulary, a phrasal verb, and to underline what you think should be stressed. You must bring your presentation in this written form on Wednesday.

Today we reviewed the vocabulary on page 45 and 50. We also discussed collocations for several of the vocabulary words. We checked vocabulary wind in Q online practice. We review the first listening, Generation Next, and listened to the second Listening, Growing Up Quickly. We took notes and discussed what the most important ideas from the lecture were. We watched 2 videos on coming of age initiation ceremonies 4 a young Apache girl and a young man from the Amazon.

Then we discussed the statements at the bottom of p. 44. We studied Voc 1 and found 2 collocations for each vocabulary word.
Finally, we listened to Listening 1-"Generation Next" and took notes. We then compared our notes with Vicki's notes and discussed why each idea should be included in the notes.

Unit 2 Test Listening– You will hear 1 of the the 2 listenings from Unit 2 again. There will be true and false statements about the listening. You will also have details from the listening, and you will need to tell why each of those details is an important detail. Review both listenings in Unit 2 and review the listening skill: identifying details on page 28. Vocabulary- You will need to match each vocabulary word given with its correct definition and choose the appropriate vocabulary word for fill in the blank sentences. Review vocabulary on page 25 and 26 and page 29. Vocabulary Skill–using the dictionary- You will have to choose the best definition for each underlined word in a given sentence. Review using the dictionary page 32. Grammar: the subjunctive- You will have to correct the error in the use of subjunctive in given sentences. Review the subjunctive page 34 and 35. Unstressed Syllables- You will hear several words pronounced. You will have to decide if the underlined syllable in each of those words is stressed or unstressed. Confirming Understanding- you will have to identify which expressions confirm understanding, restate what the speaker has said, and lets the speaker know that you understand the information. Today we reviewed the collocations for the vocabulary on page 25 and 29 of Unit 2. It is important that you memorize one collocation for each of the vocabulary words included in the collocation dictionary. Next, we listened to Listening 2 again, The Changing Business Dress Code. We discussed the interview and checked the answers for Listen for Main Ideas on page 31. Then we reviewed the vocabulary skill on page 32 of using the dictionary to choose the correct definition for your unknown words. It is important to know the part of speech of any words you are trying to look up. You can figure out the part of speech by using the context of the sentence where you find the unknown word. We checked the answers for exercises A and B on page 33. We also checked the Voicethread assignment for Question 2 on page 32.

Listen to 2 of your classmates Voicethreads on uniforms, take notes, and respond to your classmates. Tell them whether or not you agree with their opinion and use 2 to 3 of their words in your response. That way your classmates will know that you have really listened to what they had to say.

We began class today by discussing the new hybrid lessons assignment in Blackboard. We have a slightly different goal this week in English Central. The goal is to watch 5 videos, record 3,000 points, and to work on two week or average pronunciation sounds. We discussed how to do this and the directions can be found in Blackboard under week 3 hybrid lessons. It is important that everyone is in our Facebook group because part of this week's English central assignment is to post the sounds that you are working on in Facebook. Next, we reviewed some of our vocabulary words and did a quick spelling test to see which of the words we knew how to spell. Collocations homework was collected and anyone who did not complete it has only one last chance to turn it in this Wednesday. Then we checked our answers for listening one main ideas and details and discussed them. We worked together to listen again to Listening 1and identify what statements or phrases we heard that gave us the correct answers for the main ideas activity on page 6. Finally we talked about how to identify important details in lectures on page 28.

Today we started our class by reminding everyone that they need to join our class Facebook group. This is important because you will have assignments that will need to be posted in Facebook. Then we discussed the questions on page 24 under C. We discussed the pictures of the 3 people and whether or not they were dressed for success. After that we completed the chart in D and discussed our answers. Then we discussed the vocabulary on pages 25 and 26. We also learned that there are some little clues that you can look for to help you decide if a vocabulary word is a noun, a verb, or an adjective. After that, we got into groups and checked our collocations homework. Some students turned in their collocations homework because they felt they had done it correctly, but others decided they needed a little more time, and so you can turn it in on Monday. We ended the class by discussing the preview questions on page 27 for listening one of unit to a Perfect Mess. This listening is a review of a book about being messy.
